Office chair company sees major uplift in sales after moving all their payment processing to Fast Checkout
A New Jersey-based furniture company is transforming workspaces with affordable and lightly used high-end office chairs.
Seating Mind sells thousands of office chairs from major manufacturers, including Herman Miller, Steelcase, and Humanscale. With Seating Mind, customers can find quality products and huge savings.
“Now you can acquire a Herman Miller chair, which would normally cost $1,000, for just $500,” said Reuven Kohn, Marketing Director at Seating Mind.
Seating Mind was born out of Owner Jacob Kellner’s passion for furniture. A 20-year veteran of the industry, Kellner recently narrowed his focus to home office and workplace seating. Few companies specialize in refurbishing chairs, Kohn said.
“You have to know how to take apart and assemble a chair properly,” he said. “These are complicated mechanisms, and every single manufacturer creates different ergonomic chairs. You have to understand how the chairs work in order to fix them. This is not like somebody buying a chair from a garage sale and trying to change the upholstery.”
Customers are clearly buying what Seating Mind’s selling. The company closed out 2020 with $7.5 million in revenue.
“That’s a lot of chairs!” Kohn said.
Seating Mind knew it would be a success on Day 1, Kohn added. Today, it enjoys many repeat customers for chairs used in homes and workplaces.
“If a husband has an office chair that he likes, and then also the wife likes it, then you’ve got a problem,” Kohn said. “The only way to solve it is either you cut the chair in half or you buy another chair. So we have a lot of repeat customers in that sense. With corporate buyers, those are the ones that buy multiple quantities, 10 for a conference room, or they expand their office space and suddenly they have another 10 offices and need 10 more chairs. So the relationship is very strong. People love coming back and buying more.”
Buying chairs from Seating Mind became easier in February 2021, when the company installed the Fast Checkout button from payments platform Fast. Fast Checkout replaces the hassle of entering login information, payment details, and addresses during every purchase with just one click. Today, almost 100% of Seating Mind’s online orders are processed through Fast. After exclusively using the Fast Checkout payment button, Seating Mind saw a 30% conversion increase and a 47% increase in the average amount a visitor spends on the site.
Three factors made Fast the right choice, Kohn said.
The first factor was Fast Checkout allows customers to purchase chairs on the product page. No need to add items to a cart and go through the traditional checkout process.
“One of the most critical parts in my opinion is Fast Checkout on the product page,” Kohn said. “I really think that is a major seller, a major feature.”
The second factor preceded Fast. Before it came into the picture, Seating Mind used another payment processor that confused customers. Many assumed that with the other processor’s payment button they couldn’t use their credit cards to complete a purchase. It got in the way of a seamless checkout experience, Kohn said.
“Customers were annoyed,” he said. “I take care of the testimonials on a third-party platform, and I used to get, literally everyday, ‘Why do you only have them?’ ‘Why are you forcing me to use them?’ Customers didn’t realize that they could still pay with a credit card.”
After exclusively using the Fast Checkout payment button, Seating Mind saw a 30% conversion increase and a 47% increase in the average amount a visitor spends on the site.
The third factor was that the previous payment processor Seating Mind used took too long to release payout funds. Fast issues Seating Mind payouts sooner.
“Fast accommodated us,” Kohn said. “I give them ideas, and they implement them. That makes a difference. They're listening to me. They're listening to ideas from a customer standpoint.”
That is indicative of the relationship Seating Mind and Fast have. There’s an open line of communication that bodes well for both companies’ futures together.
It’s been exciting to watch the wide range of businesses installing Fast Checkout over the last couple months –– everything from solopreneurs to larger enterprises. Stay tuned for more case studies at fast.co/stories.
