Meet Nadine Bundschuh: The Fast Interview

Nadine Bundschuh, Technical Customer Support at Fast

Nadine Bundschuh

Role: Technical Customer Support

Team: Customer Success

Talk about your background leading up to Fast.

I had recently graduated college before joining Fast. Fast is my first full-time, long-term job. I was studying cognitive science, and I minored in computer science. When I graduated, I felt like I didn't have enough of a computer science background to be in software engineering, so I took a coding bootcamp in March 2020.

How did you learn about Fast, and why did you say yes to joining?

Peter (Grassi, Director of Talent Acquisition at Fast) reached out to me for a Technical Customer Success role. At the time I was not looking for a customer success position, but I was told it would lead to engineering at Fast. I worked for several startups previously and enjoyed the variety of tasks and fast-paced environment especially when I was working on a product that I really believed in. I immediately recognized Fast was a really awesome opportunity that came my way.

Where did you grow up, and what were you like as a kid?

I grew up just north of San Francisco, in a small town called Mill Valley. I was pretty outgoing as a kid and spent a lot of time outdoors on and near the water. I did very poorly in school, I had trouble reading and writing because I’m dyslexic but loved math and science. I was always rebelling against school. I never dreamed of going to college, so I focused on careers and interests that didn’t require a degree. I always thought entrepreneurship was my calling. Overall, I was a very happy, energetic kid, outside of school.

What other career path(s) did you almost take?

I’ve always loved shopping and retail, so at a young age, I became friends with many retail store owners in my area. They all knew me by name. I would ride my bike down to my favorite store and just hang out and help around the store, remerchandising and selling products “unofficially.” I wasn't making any money. It was just for fun. I always thought that I would open my own retail store. I even made a business plan my sophomore year of high school to start my own local business.

Which public figure do you admire the most and why?

Elon Musk. He exemplifies what I think humans should be. He's creative, does not limit himself or his ideas, and isn't afraid to just go for it.

What app on your phone do you use the most?

It's definitely Zillow. I'm always looking at real estate.

What food do you uncontrollably eat?

Anything with sugar. I have a huge sweet tooth. I've always been a cupcake person.

Who’s your favorite TV or film character?

Elle Woods. “Legally Blonde.” I would say a close second is Forrest Gump. And the reason I choose those two characters is that people don't think that they're very smart, and that's something I identify with.

What was the last show you binge-watched?

Ginny & Georgia.”

What personal goal would you like to achieve in the next five years?

I hope to be a software engineer by then. I’d also like to move to San Diego within the next year. I've spent the last two summers in Berlin studying and working abroad, and I'd love to move there for at least a year.
