Role: Director of Sales, Growth
Team: Growth Sales
What were you doing before Fast?
I've spent the last eight to nine years at WP Engine and Bold Commerce. The real question is what wasn't I doing! At WP Engine I worked with enterprise brands, digital agencies, and system integrators to help bring WordPress into the enterprise. We experienced tremendous growth, going from 70 employees to almost 1,000. Most recently, at Bold Commerce, I built and led our mid-market and enterprise sales teams. I also led the revenue operations team for a good portion of my time there.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Texas and spent most of my childhood in southern Indiana, right across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. There was also a three-year stint in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Why did you say yes to Fast?
People! Technology! Opportunity and total addressable market! I met with a lot of Fastronauts prior to accepting an offer with Fast, and they were all impressive. The leadership at Fast has the "been there, done that'' experience, and I like to surround myself with that. A lot of lessons learned from prior successes and failures
Fast is investing in the right people, but Domm and team(s) also have an excellent vision of the future and how our technology can drive immense impact for so many buyers and sellers.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I'm proud of how far I've come in my career. Like a lot of other people, I didn't come from much and don't have a college degree. I've had such an incredible amount of support, help, leadership, and friendship from so many people. No way in heck I'd be here without them, and I'm so fortunate to be in a position where I can, hopefully, make a similar impact on people around me.
Describe your biggest “aha” moment?
"People buy from people." When I truly understood the meaning of that, which is really quite simple, that's when my sales career took off. Do the right things for the right reasons. Do the little things. Deliver on what you promise, and deliver it on time (or early).
What motivates you?
Solving problems and adding value for our clients and partners is a driver for me. Most importantly, though, empowering others to be able to tell stories. Stories of firsts are my favorites! People that buy their first home, take their first trip overseas, get their first brand new car, the first person on a brand new team, first time moving into leadership – so many examples! I've experienced so many firsts, and it's such an incredible feeling. I want to do everything I can to give others that feeling.
What’s your favorite book, film, or TV show?
I've always struggled to answer this question because it honestly depends on what kind of mood I'm in. My all-time favorite movie is “Dumb and Dumber.” It's absolutely a comedic masterpiece, but it's also really nostalgic for me because it's the only movie that my dad, my four brothers, and I have all seen together in the theater.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Control the controllables! Things rarely go according to plan, but that's part of the incredible journey that we call life. Focusing on what's within your control will put you in such an advantageous position. Maybe you don't get a certain promotion or opportunity, but you'll always be able to hold your head high, knowing that you put in the effort and did your best.
Are there lucky people out there? Sure. I also believe that people make their own luck. Control the controllables and put yourself in a place to be successful and happy in your career, as well as in your personal life.
