Meet Dan Klek: The Fast Interview

Dan Klek, Area Vice President, Sales, at Fast

Dan Klek

Role: Area Vice President, Sales

Team: Enterprise Sales Team

What were you doing before Fast?

Prior to joining Fast, I spent 10 years at Salesforce in a variety of individual contributor and leadership positions, most recently leading an enterprise sales team in the Salesforce Commerce Cloud business unit.

Where did you grow up, and what were you like as a kid?

Growing up in Schaumburg, Illinois (about 30 miles northwest of Chicago), the majority of my time was spent on the soccer field, buzzing around town on my Haro BMX bike, or blazing through the Northwoods of Wisconsin on my snowmobile in the winter. While I enjoyed school, I loved being outdoors exploring. In those days, Mom and Dad’s only rule was to be home at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Otherwise, I was always on the go…moving Fast!

Why did you say yes to Fast?

While Fast’s hypergrowth and branding across all channels piqued my interest, I joined the team because of the people. Energetic, experienced, determined, humble, and fun are the ways I can best describe every leader I’ve spoken to at Fast. Oh, and in addition to people, I should also mention we have the fastest and most innovative one-click checkout in the world. That played a role, too.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

The 2008-09 commercial real estate market downturn presented significant challenges during my previous seven-year career as a broker. During the downturn, I had to dig deep and contemplate new paths. Focusing on a move to tech, I targeted hypergrowth organizations to rebuild my career. Following a brief stint at a real estate tech company, I landed at Salesforce. As a Chicago Hub founder, Salesforce provided an incredible platform which allowed me to plant my feet and grow. Ten years and eight positions later, I’m extremely proud and forever grateful for my opportunities at Salesforce.

When did someone’s kindness toward you make a big difference in your life?

Without the support of my wife, Jess, I wouldn't be where I am today. Whether shifting career paths back in 2010, coaching me before meetings or presentations, or helping me chart my career path at Salesforce and through joining Fast, she’s been beside me every step of the way. I’ve always been inspired by her success as a leader in tech, and her guidance over the years has been invaluable. We have a true partnership, both professionally and personally.

Describe your biggest “aha” moment?

Coaching salespeople as they navigate the trials and tribulations of tech sales has become my key motivator.  My favorite “aha” moments are celebrating account executives’ successes after going through a lull or challenging time. As a salesperson, it’s incredibly easy to get down on yourself. As a leader and coach, I love inspiring individuals through these times with a positive and motivating approach.

What’s your favorite book, film, or TV show?

There are so many new series that are incredible, “Succession,” “Yellowstone,” “Billions,” etc., but my favorite of all time has to be “Sons of Anarchy.” Just brilliantly written and definitely one of the most dramatic series I've seen. #SAMCRO.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Don't get too high in the highs. Don't get too low in the lows. You have to stay humble with whatever life throws at you.
