Meet Anita Banwait: The Fast Interview

Anita Banwait, Implementation Project Manager at Fast

Anita Banwait

Role: Implementation Project Manager

Team: Customer Success Leadership & Operations

Why did you join Fast?

I was looking for my next challenge, and I'd been exploring fintech for some time. I was in the U.K. prior to COVID, where I got a lot of exposure and spoke to many different fintech companies. And when we moved back to the U.S., I wanted to do something where I could retain my e-commerce background and still explore post-checkout. In my previous company, it was mostly pre-checkout: search and individualization, so I was looking for a hybrid of the e-commerce and fintech spaces for my next company. Fast is my ideal company; it checks those two boxes. I had been tracking Fast ever since it went live with Fast Checkout, and I was constantly looking at the jobs board.

Tell us more about what you were doing before you joined Fast.

I was doing technical integrations at previous startups. I worked with a lot of great brands to make sure the implementation process was smooth.

The first job I ever had was at Hewlett-Packard. It was like a high-school internship, where I would make presentation decks for the controller, so it exposed me to corporate lifestyles. And from there, the contacts that I made at Hewlett-Packard helped me progress into other opportunities. That launched my path into tech.

Where did you grow up, and what were you like as a kid?

I am from London originally, and we moved to the States when I was young and went back pretty frequently. I also went to Uni there. I have an extroverted personality, but I didn't come out of my shell until early in college. I became the social person who said, “OK, what are we doing this week? And what are our plans?”

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

With COVID, there was a period of a couple of months last year when I was essentially a single mom, because my husband was still stuck in the U.K. I had full-time work, I had a new baby, and my accomplishment was just being able to survive that period. It was extremely challenging.

Secondly, getting here to Fast. This was something that I was targeting, and through reaching out to different folks, I found my way here. I’m proud that I got here.

When did someone’s kindness toward you make a big difference in your life?

I’m going back to 2020: The kindness that my friends showed me during that time – I couldn’t put a price tag on it. They stepped up to show me support as a new mom.

What is your top travel destination?

I’ve traveled extensively prior to COVID. I’d like to return to India. There are some spiritual sites I would like to visit and immerse myself in peace, give back, and be thankful. Also as a current California resident, can you believe I’ve never been to Mexico? Mexico City is next on my list!

Who is your celebrity doppelgänger?

Mila Kunis. I’ve heard that a couple of times. I don’t know. I can’t see it.

Where do you see yourself in a year from now?

What I love about Fast is there’s so much room for growth and advancement. As our product matures and we bring on more large sellers, it would be great to oversee and lead an implementations team.
