Migrating Fast to New Plugin Directory Version (for Early Sellers)

Fast Checkout for WooCommerce is officially live in the WordPress plugin directory!

Our early Sellers were onboarded by the Fast Customer Success team with a pre-release plugin version prior to the official 1.0 release of Fast for WooCommerce in the WordPress plugin directory. Managing your plugins through the plugin directory makes it much easier to keep up-to-date. It's imperative that WordPress stores are maintained with frequent plugin updates.

This will walk you through how to uninstall the version our team installed, and install the plugin directory version, making it easier to keep your plugin up-to-date.

Steps to Migrate to the plugin directory version

Fast Checkout will be temporarily unavailable while you are completing these steps. Have no fear, your plugin settings will remain intact as those are stored in your database, not the plugin code itself.

Deactivate Previous Plugin Version

WordPress Admin Access Required

You must have WordPress admin access to to install and remove plugins.

  1. Log in to the admin dashboard of your WordPress site.

    The url for this is usually https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

  2. Click Plugins -> Installed Plugins in the left sidebar of your WordPress admin dashboard.

  3. Select the previous plugin by clicking the checkbox to the left of the plugin's name ("Fast Checkout for WooCommerce" in image below).

  4. Scroll to the very top of the list (or the bottom) and click Bulk Actions -> Deactivate.

  5. Now that the plugin is deactivated, it's time to delete the plugin.

    • You can either click "Delete" under the plugin name, or follow the same checkbox method used in the previous step, choosing Bulk Actions -> Delete.

    The plugin deactivation and deletion process should not affect your existing plugin settings. Your plugin settings will be retained because they are stored in your database, not within the plugin code itself.

Activate WordPress Plugin Directory Version

WordPress Admin Access Required

You must have WordPress admin access to to install and remove plugins.

  1. Log in to the admin dashboard of your WordPress site.

    The url for this is usually https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

  2. Click Plugins -> Add New in the left sidebar of your WordPress admin dashboard to visit the WordPress plugin directory.

  3. Search for "Fast Checkout" or "Fast Checkout for WooCommerce" in the plugin directory.

  4. Click Install Now to install the Fast Checkout for WooCommerce plugin from the plugin directory.
  5. Click Activate. Essentially this turns the plugin code functionality "on."

TIP: Managing Plugin Updates

When you make plugin changes (e.g. updates, removals, etc.) you may need to manually turn test mode off again. Navigate to Fast Checkout settings. Scroll to the bottom and ensure "Enable test mode" is unchecked.

TIP: Troubleshooting Plugin Issues

You can deactivate plugins to troubleshoot website issues. Slowly deactivate them one-by-one, each time checking to see if the issue persists. If deactivating a plugin resolves the issue, visit the plugin's changelog or website for relevant updates. Also ensure all of your plugins are always up-to-date.

OPTIONAL: Enable Automatic Updates

After plugin installation from the plugin directory is complete, you have the option to enable automatic plugin updates.

  1. Log in to the admin dashboard of your WordPress site.

    The url for this is usually https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

  2. Click Plugins -> Installed Plugins in the left sidebar of your WordPress admin dashboard.

  3. Scroll down to the Fast Checkout for WooCommerce plugin on the Installed Plugins page.
  4. Click Enable auto-updates.

If at any point you wish to disable auto-updates, you can return to the Installed Plugins page, scroll down to the Fast for WooCommerce plugin, and click "Disable auto-updates." If auto-updates are disabled, you will then need to check the Installed Plugins page for future updates and click the "update now" option to manually initiate an update.
